Earth Advantage Home Certification

Earth Advantage Home Certification makes sure your home is a minimum of 20% or more energy efficient than the requirements of the state building code. This certification also means that your home has passed two strict inspections by a trained professional that specializes in building science and makes sure the building adheres to Earth Advantage’s high certification standards.

These inspections are important as they ensure your home is built to last, is efficient, provides a safe and healthy indoor environment and maintains its value. Earth Advantage gives the homeowner peace of mind knowing their home has been built more efficiently and made to last. Earth Advantage is a non-profit, third-party verifier organization.

Earth Advantage’s mission is to ensure homes are built in accordance with their practices that ensures less land degradation and deforestation, reduce any waste, promote healthy landscapes and prevent potential erosion that may be caused during the construction process.

New home development and maintenance heavily depend on natural resources. It is encouraged to obtain locally manufactured products to be environmentally responsible. Durable materials are also incorporated which in turn helps the environment in the long run, reducing the need to maintain the building.

Earth Advantage certification means that while your Portland home is being constructed, we’re conscious of all the processes and materials used to ensure your family’s health is not affected. As an Earth Advantage certified home builder, we select earth-friendly building materials that contain fewer harmful chemicals than those used by most builders. Our homes are carefully air sealed which prevents airborne industrial particles and allergens from entering your home. Ventilation systems that reduce airborne contaminants are also incorporated, reducing the chances of asthma, allergies and more serious health risks. We check and secure that all gas combustion systems are sealed and take preventative measures to protect your home from excessive moisture that may result in fungi, mold and pests.

More Efficient Homes

Earth Advantage certified Homes use carefully selected techniques and features to save 20% or more energy than homes built using current code. These factors include high-performance HVAC equipment, insulation systems, tight construction and sealed ducts. Keeping energy usage in mind, we add Energy Star qualified appliances such as lighting appliances and air-sealing techniques. By doing so, Earth Advantage certified home’s monthly energy bills can be substantially reduced in comparison to traditional built homes.

Nonetheless, Earth Advantage certified newly built homes are constructed using water-wise technologies that reduce water costs, the amount of water needed for day-to-day life and contribute to a clean water environment.
